About Us
Derik’s love for the Maine outdoors began with stories from his grandfather and a ski trip to Baxter State Park. A few years later, he drove his 1974 VW camper to The Forks for training, he launched a career as a Registered Maine Guide that has spanned 26 years and counting.
Derik is licensed with his Recreational guide, Sea Kayak, and Whitewater Guide Certifications. He received certification from the American Canoe Association in paddle boarding and sea kayaking, and now teaches essential skills to help others confidently navigate the water, turning outdoor gear from garage clutter into adventure tools.
Mike’s guiding experience began in 1994 with an Outdoor Leadership class at UMaine, where he first began whitewater canoeing, orienteering, and leading groups in the woods of Maine. Though his career has been in the corporate world, his recreational time has been spent on outdoor pursuits and increasing his knowledge of the natural world. The COVID years strengthened his desire to share his knowledge so more people can safely enjoy Maine’s natural beauty.

Mike is a licensed Recreational and Freshwater Fishing guide and is working toward tidal recreation certification. His passion is whitewater canoeing and canoe tripping.
